word oddities

Is the word ‘ulterior’ ever used unaccompanied by the word ‘motive’?
Same question for the word ‘fro’. Is it ever used without the words ‘to and’?
Finally, why is the phrase ’spring chicken’ only used in the negative sense? No one ever looks at a young girl and says ‘Wow, she’s really a spring chicken’. It’s only used for older men and women, i.e. ‘She’s no spring chicken’. It’s a phrase that’s only expressed as a negative.
Words are weird.
